Aims:
Water Engineering Horizon (WEH) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-impact research providing innovative and practical solutions to address critical global water challenges. The journal aims to bridge between fundamental science and emerging technologies and their real-world engineering implementation.
Scope:
WEH prioritizes studies the technology of which demonstrates relevance, scalability, and practical applicability. For example, water engineering technologies contributing to sustainable and resilient water systems utilizing the information-water engineering nexus concept are welcome.
WEH welcomes original research, reviews, and short communications in, but not limited to, the following areas:
1. Water and Wastewater Treatment:
Advanced biological treatment processes, membrane-based technologies, electrochemical and catalytic systems, desalination, etc. for removing a variety of water pollutants, especially emerging contaminants
2. Water Resources Engineering:
Hydrological processes, integrated water resources management, groundwater–surface water interactions, and climate change impacts on water systems
3. Sustainable Water Systems:
Water reuse, circular water economy, resource recovery, water–energy nexus, information-water engineering nexus and nature-based solutions
4. Innovative Materials and Technologies:
Functional materials, nanotechnology, sensing and monitoring systems, AI-driven water engineering, and AI-based automatic control technologies for water systems
5. Infrastructure and Practice:
Smart water networks, system optimization, resilience and adaptation, scale-up, techno-economic analysis, and real-world case studies
Focus and Contribution
WEH particularly encourages submissions that:
- Demonstrate translation from laboratory to pilot or full-scale systems
- Provide quantitative performance evaluation and validation
- Address industry-relevant challenges and implementation barriers
- Integrate multidisciplinary approaches across engineering, science, and policy
